Upgrade to 9.4.2 produced high CPU load and client connectivity problems

I have a what I think are several problems and I lack the expertise to figure it all out – perhaps someone can help me break it down and attack the individual issues.

Basic Problem description
Post upgrade to 9.4.2 my Untangle CPU Load reads High and I have been suffering connectivity issues from some workstations. These problems may be connected – not sure. At this point I have everything turned off except firewall and reports – seems if I turn anything else on something will suffer some type of connection (to internet) loss – my primary workstation (fortunately) being the most likely to manifest the problem first.

Background
I am not a serious networking guy – I consider myself a moderately skilled home networker. How I came to have several servers and an untangle server running at my home isn’t especially important. Understanding how I can be in this position without the requisite technical understanding is worth a mention: Simply, I have over the last 25 years or so stumbled through problems doing just enough learning to get the problem solved and move on.

Upgrade
I have been running Untangle as my primary router for several years. While I disabled Auto Upgrade I have become rather more trusting of the untangle teams ability to manage the process than perhaps I should! Thusly without taking a backup I installed a rather significant number of packages (66) in one shot earlier this morning. This is the current system Info:
Build: 9.4.2~svn20130830r35759release9.4-1lenny
Kernel: 2.6.26-2-untangle-amd64
History: yes (4)
Reboots: 3 (0)

Apps
Prior to upgrade to 9.4.2 the CPU was always low (laughably low) and I had all the apps (shown in the image) and Application Control Lite (not shown). All apps were enabled except Intrusion Prevention.
After the upgrade to 9.4.2 I was unable to access the internet (browse) from my primary workstation until I turned off most of the applications. Browser connection was also impacted at other workstations but the behavior varied a little (can’t explain why). I experimented a little by re-enabling applications and thought I was onto something until without any system change I lost (browser) connection again. This threw all my logic based diagnosis out the window and frustrated me enormously.

Removed Application Control Lite
After reading the forum (old stuff) I removed Application Control Lite. Didn’t seem to help.

Stability achieved
I have found a stable setup with just the firewall and reporting turned on.

Going forward
I am disinterested in trying further experimentation without a clearer plan. I simply don’t know enough about how to diagnose and isolate the issue(s) and I don’t want to keep breaking my family’s connectivity with a clear purpose and timeline.

Thank you in advance for any help or advice.
