Problem with Untangle 12

Hi there,

I just downloaded the latest IMG Download off of Untangle's Website and loaded it on to a new PC that we just built.

Shuttle DS81
Intel Pentium G3260
Kingston 4 GB Memory
Kingston 120 GB SSD (M2 Format)

I got through the installation without errors. I shut it down safely to unplug the power and plug it back in to test AC Recovery. Now when the Shuttle boots up I can see the Untangle loading screen then it goes to a black screen with an _ in the top left corner.

I can get to the web interface while it is at this screen but we have no local console. I can SSH to it too. I am just wondering if anyone has any ideas before I try wiping it.

Thanks,

Justin

can't get to work VPN

Just installed Untangle the other day and love it so far, very impressed.

Working from home today, first time trying to log in to my work's VPN. It seems to be very slow. I know the VPN is Cisco, but that's about all I know. Do I need to do anything to configure VPN passthrough?

how often is the hosts table refreshed?

How often is the hosts table refreshed? In the Host Viewer an IP and hostname are assigned to the wrong MAC address. As far as I can the DHCP lease got released and picked up by a new host in a short period of time. Untangle has the MAC of the new host, with the hostname of the old. I deleted the corresponding entry on the Device List, but it persists in the Host Viewer. It's not a huge issue, but this particular IP is an IP cam that I wanted to make sure wasn't phoning home or elsewhere.

copying configuration file

Using version 12.0.1

I'm trying to copy out, and in, the configuration file saved from: Config -> System -> Backup. I've created the backup configuration. When it creates the file, it tell me its located in: home/kiosk/Downloads, (or something like that). Now I need to copy it onto a usb stick. In version 11.x I could use the Terminal icon from the opening interface, then use the admin password, and I'd get a normal Unix shell. I could mount the usb, and copy out the file. But in 12.0.1, when I try to use Terminal, and enter the admin password, it's rejected. I've tried several times and I know typing the password correctly. Is there some other password that's used for the Terminal / shell?

Or is there a better way to copy out / in the backup configuration file than the method I've described above.

Thanks in advance for any help.

VMWare ESXI OVA

Greetings.

I have Untangle running successfully on an ESXi 6.0 box. Seems to run fine but I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me out with.

1. Why is the swap always set to 0? Is it because this is manage by the host? The swap setting in ESXi is set to Default and states "Use the settings of the cluster or host containing the virtual machine."
2. I see the open-vm-tools is installed but the communication between untangle the ESXi host seems to not work. ESXi reads no memory usage, no CPU usage and it states vm-tools isn't installed.

Thanks!

UID Change, Lost Subscriptions on Dedicated Appliance Reload? - Plus More Excitement

So during the middle of a busy day I clicked "upgrade" on my U150 appliance and V12 was installed - it rebooted and never came back, after 30 minutes I turned it off an on - nothing on the display connected to the device.

Support told me to download and do a re-install - seemed far fetched but I did it. I had backed up the config and restored it to the new V12 software. This of course would not boot until I disconnected the display hooked to the device. Am I the only one that thinks this is a big problem?

The system now shows only ** on the LCD display and the UID has changed. I thought the UID was permanent with the hardware? Anyway, none of my app licenses show up now so failover, etc is not working as it is not licensed. I tried the instructions to "move" the license but don't have the options when I log into the dashboard.

Very frustrating process! I can't seem to get my UID right to get my subscriptions back!

Traffic stopped at our firewall

I'm trying to get a simple setup working with our new Untangle device and I'm having trouble right out of the box. Any help would be appreciated. (It is a u150 device.)

Right now the setup is as follows:
Internet ---> Cisco ASA5512 ---> u150 ---> wireless access point

(Originally the setup was just minus the u150.)

- The port on the ASA that the u150 is connected to has a gateway IP of 192.168.6.1 and is proving DHCP and DNS.
- The external port on the u150 is addressed at 192.168.6.9 and "is WAN" is unchecked. "NAT traffic coming from this interface" is also unchecked. I have tried one or both of them checked already. All other options are off (no DHCP, etc.)
- The internal port is set to bridge the external port.
- The u150's external port is connected to the ASA and the u150's internal port is connected to the wireless access point.

- I can connect to the wireless access point and receive an IP address from the DHCP server - the laptop gives 192.168.6.1 as the gateway.
- I can reach and configure the u150 and from the u150 I can ping the gateway (192.168.6.1).
- Looking at the ASA's ARP table, both the u150 and laptop appear as expected.
- I cannot ping or get any connectivity outside the ASA from the u150 or the laptop. This includes trying to ping by ip.
- Looking at the settings on the ASA there are no access rules besides "allow everything" on this port.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Untangle only recognizing 1TB of a 4TB disk

We are installing Untangle on a 4TB disk. We went through the graphical installer and when we finish Untangle says it has a 1 TB disk. 984.17GB to be exact.

Is there a limit that Untangle will recognize or do we need to do something special?

Thanks

Delegate user roles

$

Hi,
We are looking at replacing our current firewall/webfilter/spam filter solution and are trialling Untangle. It seems great so far, however we delegate some roles to user e.g. spam filter releasing. Is there any way of delegating user roles in the admin console, so a user can log on and only see the spam section? It would also be useful if certain reports could be delegated as well?

I think there may be a way around the spam filter by setting up a redirect to a users quarantine digest. Ive not tested this but if I set up a redirect for everyones digest to spam.admin@ouremail.com, then the "spam administrator" should be able to log in to the http://serverip/quarantine webpage and release everyones messages?
Thanks
Gary

Warning: SMTPS (465) is deprecated and not supported. Use STARTTLS (587).

configure outgoing mail to port 587 get error below:
530 Must issue a STARTTLS command first Completed Spool file 1bIr9y-00083T-26-D not found

validate mozilla email client for the same SMTP Server on Port 587 show mail Server is working
it looks like the TLS email on untangle is broken. any advice on fixes.

fall back to local email service on SMTP 25 with no password authentication for now

Fresh Install Issues on Dell Optiplex 3010

Hi - I am having some trouble, I did a fresh install straight from the ISO 1201 and it went smooth, but I need to use the safe video mode because the monitor reports that the resolution is out of range - (1920x1200 60hz is what it would like, or lower)

Also when I try to run the initial config, I get localhost refused to connect ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

But it's a fresh install? I'm trying to sell a company on subscribing and so far I don't have good answers for them - any tips?

Thanks,
Dan

I am running version 12.0.1 and have noticed every few days I have to reboot the unit due to RAM full. I have not found anything that will flush the RAM or what might be filling it up. The unit is a mini PC with 4gig of RAM.

I am running,
Web Filter
Virus Blocker
Web Cache

Any help locating the problem would be great.

miniupnpd ip tables chains?

$

I need upnp to work so i installed miniupnpd which is pretty simple, but it appears something in the firewall is blocking it from working.

Miniupnpd works by inserting rules to the following chains.

#upnp_forward_chain=
#upnp_nat_chain=

Can you tell me the name of the chains used by untangle firewall or any other changes i may need to make for this to work?

Thank you

Clean install but constant reboot at boot DHCPREQUEST

$

I'm having a really odd issue. I've been running Sophos UTM for a couple years and decided to try Untangle now that there is the home license.

The install on my desk went fine and I got through the initial config. Everything looked clean so I did a shutdown and took it downstairs to my rack. I cabled it up and powered up where I was met with a continual reboot cycle. I watched the boot messages and saw that it was getting to the WAN dhcp request and rebooting.

If I disconnect the WAN Ethernet cable during boot it will boot just fine. Once booted I can plug the cable in and force a dhcp request and then everything works perfectly. It's just the initial dhcp request at boot. It has been running 3 days without a hich. I tried a shutdown and restart and bam same issues.

The motherboard is an Asrock E3C224 and I've got the WAN port set to an port on an Intel I340-T4 NIC card.

This is the weirdest darned thing......

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
