Unable to access Netgear 724 setup page.

Hey all,

I am relatively new to untangle. I setup Untangle as a router and am unable to visit the webpage of a Netgear smart switch downstream.

Motorola Cable Modem --> Untangle (router mode 192.XXX.YYY.1) --> Netgear (static IP 192.xxx.yyy.2) ---> All other devices around home.

Is there a silly option I am missing, or is some port being redirected around the netgear.

Untangle NG Firewall on Amazon AWS?

Does anyone know if it would be possible to install NG Firewall in an AWS instance? If so, how would one go about doing so?

Could it be used in place of the Amazon provided NAT AMI?

In particular, I am trying to set up an AWS VPC with a private and a public subnet. I would like to allow instances on the private subnet to access the internet and to port forward requests from the internet to particular systems in the private subnet.

I have found little to no instruction on how to set up the Amazon provided NAT AMI, so I am not comfortable with using it. It almost seems like an instance of Amazon's NAT solution is just a 'dummy' instance only used for assignment of an elastic IP (EIP), and the actual configuration is done via Routing Tables, ACL, and Security Groups.

Given the choice I think I would rather set up Untangle NG Firewall if that is possible and receive all the additional benefits and advantages that come with doing so.

(Perhaps the Untangle team could make a preconfigured AMI available on AWS for easy installation by others in a similar situation with me - it seems like it would be a good opportunity for tapping into a ton of potential customers).

I read in a closed thread that:
You can fix it yourself, but it requires running commands on the Linux command line. So if you aren't familiar with Debian, just let them do it. If you are familiar with Debian, and Untangle you won't need the instructions because you'll know how to use ucli and apt to cure it.

I want to learn how to fix it. Please could someone send me the instructions. Thanks.

Untangle blocking outgoing mail

1. I have installed Untangle in an ESXI environment.
2. Setup two NIC's one for internal and other for external.
3. Both vSwitches are in promiscuous mode.
4. I have disabled Scan outgoing mail.

Here is my problem. I only use these modules (spam,virus and phishing ) and when all modules are turned off it will allow my exchange server to pass mail. I have tried one by one and mail gets blocked still.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Problem after installation...

Hi everybody,

after a fresh install of untangle 10.1 i'm unable to start the client from the server, the error is: "Failed to execute child process /usr/bin/untangle-client (no such file or directory)".
I search in the directory from the shell and the file doesn't exist... anyone can help ?
During the install no errors were prompt and this is the first time after many installation of Untangle that i receive this error. In the same server, in the past, i've installed version 9.x and 10 without issues.

ESXi 5.0, 1311175 12hrs uptime all frozen

Hi all,

Ran a new install OVA from WebFool's link in other post yesterday afternoon. here are the specs of the physical server I am trying to run on:

ML370 G5
dual E5335
1TB raid 5 on P400/512
32GB RAM
2 other VM, data, email

I did follow the guide UT or WebFool created on the wiki and ensured time date are correct.
the VM is stock but went from 2GB ram to 3GB, just for more wiggle room. we have about 10 clients, from tablets, DVR, phones, 2 desktops, one laptop. Just a home network with static IP. our current dn/up speeds are fine all the time with 85/15 avg speed test. there is no warning but one thing, its always happening from 2-7 in the morning every time i reinstall UT. i started with V9 and just last night tried V10, about the same time. I did install all around that time period, just 12 hrs prior. if i leave the server running without start UT it runs for a few days then i try and fire up UT, and about 12 hrs later, LAN2 light blinks rapidly (UT-LAN) to internal clients, LAN1 Light is off no activity (shared lan for all other VM), solo rtl8169 as EXT connection from modem. 3 separate VSwitches. i dont think i created a storm?

[Fixed] DNS not resolving

Just wanted to share a problem I had, and the solution.

After 2 days of working correctly, my NG Firewall failed. It would successfully acquire an IP address and DNS Server from the WAN via DHCP and was pingable, but DNS tests failed and there was no DNS at all on the box. All DHCP from Untangle was also failing.

Took me a while to troubleshoot, but what I discovered was that I had inadvertantly assigned the same IP address twice to two devices under Static DHCP Entries under Config-Network-Advanced-DHCP Server. This caused all DHCP and DNS activity from Untangle to fail. Removing the double entry fixed the problem.

Just thought I'd share this in case anyone else runs into the same problem.

Untangle no longer booting

Hello everyone, I'm a bit green when it comes to this software, but I was initially able to get everything installed and configured correctly. I've had been running the software for nearly 6 months with no problem. Few days ago, I shut the machine the software runs on down and now I can no longer get it to come back up. All I'm seeing on boot now is the following.

* Starting ClamAV daemon clamd
...done
* Stopping ClamAV daemon clamd
...done
* Starting ClamAV daemon clamd
...done
* Stopping ClamAV daemon clamd
...done
* Starting ClamAV daemon clamd
...done
* Stopping ClamAV daemon clamd
...done

It starts/stops the Clamav daemon over and over and will go no further. anyone have any idea's? I can get in and restore to factory if need be, but I would really like to avoid that if at all possible.

Creating Boot Flash Disk - I don't get it

The instructions on the download page say to use Win32 DiskImager to create a bootable USB stick, and even helpfully link to the download page for Disk Imager.

But Untangle downloads as a .ISO file, and WinDiskImager tells you it's for creating USBs from .IMG files. You can force it to accept the ISO by browing for "All file types (*.*)" but that results in a 5-second process that produces a non-bootable flash drive.

In my experience, anyway. Repeatably, with the latest and previous versions of Disk Imager. I tried following a post my skynight (http://forums.untangle.com/feedback/...-installs.html) - the only hit when I searched these forums for "Disk Imager" - and he refers to using Diskpart from the Win7 command line... well I tried hacking that, too but don't have the patience to figure out what I'm doing wrong when it keeps telling me "no partition is selected". Simpler to use GPartEd but why go to all that trouble? There must be a better utility for burning the ISO to a bootable USB. Only question is, which of the approximately 15 that I have used at one time or another... :-(

Mutual Auth TLS

Hello,

A large international bank (HSBC) has recently started requesting it's clients enable Mutual TLS on their servers.

However Untangle doesn't appear to process this traffic correctly.

I'm perfectly happy to bypass traffic from hsbc but obviously a better solution would be for Untangle to work correctly here whilst maintaining spam filtering.

Can this be done with HTTPS inspector?

Can anyone help? Please note that turning off port 25 filters isn't an option.

Cant download free apps

Hi guys. i just installed untangle build 9.4.2 . everything seems to be fine, with internet connection, i can browse the internet from the browser, but the problem is, i cant download applications. after i click the "DOWNLOAD FREE APP" it always says that "Sorry, we could not start the installtaion on your server - please contact untangle support" can anyone help me please,,

Video Issue with install of V10

Just an update to a problem I had several months ago.

I did some research on squeeze in the Debian website in the section "Troubleshooting the Installation Process" and found a possible workaround. I let this sit for several months while other issues were more important and then tried it today.
I was able to install version 10.1 today on the same hardware by hitting tab at the install selection screen, making a change to the text, I deleted vga=788 and added fb=false, and was able to proceed with the installation without any video issues during install, albeit a text install and not graphical. I am now up and running. :D
I am not an expert by any means, but am familiar with multiple operating systems and always find satisfaction when I can find the answer to a problem.

New Installation won't boot

Hi,
This is my first set up of an Untangle server so it's entirely possible I'm doing something wrong!
I've installed the 32-bit version of Untangle 10.1 onto a basic Dell Optiplex GX320 with no additional NICs for now.
After the install has completed and the disk ejects, the PC restarts and just hangs on a screen (screenshot attached link below)

Installation of Untangle Doesn't continue past "Partition Disks"

Hey All,

I'm a big fan of Untangle, so much so that I am trying to incorporate it into my network.

This is going to me my new Untangle machine:
Dell PowerEdge 1U Rackmount Server
Dual Intel Xeon Quad-Core L5410 2.33GHz,
16GB DDR2,
2x 1TB HDD,
RAID,
Dual Gigabit LAN, DRSX-13PE50

I am attempting to install Untangle 10.10 64bit via USB. Through text mode or graphic mode I can get as far as the 'Partition Disks' page. On this page both hard drives are displayed as well as my untangle usb install drive. Upon selecting either terabyte drive I get a message saying:

"The selected device contains partitions used for software raid devices. The following devices and partitions are about to be removed:
Software RAID devices about to be removed: md127 (container)
Partitions used by these RAID devices:
Note that this will also permanently erase any data currently on the software RAID devices.
Remove existing software RAID partitions?"

At this point no matter if I say Yes or No to the question, upon selecting "continue" I am directed back to the "Partition Disks" page. For reasons I don't understand I cannot get the installation past this page.

I have disabled RAID support in the BIOS but the problem persists.
I have toggled the BIOS to IDE or AHCI but the problem persists.
I managed to get untangle to install on a portable USB drive connected to the server as a troubleshooting test but I currently cannot boot from the usb drive - I suspect related to a bios message saying it will only boot from a hard drive or CDrom.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong? I am at your mercy.

My installation is scanning all outbound SMTP traffic even though I have the scan outgoing outbound disabled.

is there something I'm missing?
