No Pages Scanned - UT on ESXi

Hi

My VMWare ESXi has 4 NIC.

I have two LAN Segment, say LAN A and LAN B.

I have one internet connection.

On VM Host, I create 4 vSwitch, 1 phisical NIC on each vSwitch.

I name the 4 NIC as follow:

internal
external

Untangle external
Untangle internal

Users in LAN A, they have to connect to internet via Proxy.
So I created VM and install ISA and gave them 2 vSwitch internal and external.

User in LAN A, browse to internet using non transparant proxy setting on their internet connection.


Users in LAN B, they have to connect to internet via gateway untangle.
So I create a VM and install Untangle 9.3, and gave 2 vSwitch
(untangle external and untangle internal.) Please see the screen shot)
I also modify the NIC to Promiscuous Mode both untagle external and untagnle internal.

Now I have the problem with the Untagnle VM.
From Untangle, can access to internet and to LAN B.
openVPN on Untangle also works fine. openVPN users can access the LAN B.
But users on LAN B, can not browsing the internet.

Tracert from LAN B, stop at IP internal of Untangle (Untangle in Router Mode).

Now, in the Untangle Web Panel, I can see traffic coming, for example in Web Filter. But the indicator "Scanned Pages" is Zero.
(please see the screen shot).

Anyone can give me some direction to solve this?

Does it has something todo with ESXi configuration? or just Untangle?
Btw, I have tried to shutdown the Untangle VM
/etc/init.d/untangle-vm stop just to by pass the traffic.
But still users can not browse internet.

And for your info, NIC card on the host machine are as follows:

One is Intel 82571EB with 2 port >> use for Untangle

and another one is Broadcom NetXtreme II 5716 >> use for ISA

Hello,

I'm trying to configure untangle to reach the internet, so far 2 interfaces are recognized.

Here is my network topology below..

(INTERNET) --- cable modem --- untangle firewall --- router --- client workstations

1. My External is dynamic
2. My Internal is static
3. Configured for dynamic DHCP connection
4. DHCP disabled
5. DNS server disabled

What am I doing wrong? :confused:

Errors

I'm having trouble installing Untangle on a new system I just built. I tried both 9.3.2 and 9.2 and it would hang at 33% at formatting the drive. I finally got 9.2 32-bit installed. Now when I boot up I receive the following error message.



I even tried using the 9.3.2 64-bit installer and it asks for cd-rom drivers before it will install. I don't know if my hardware is too new, faulty, or not using compatible hardware. Any ideas?

Brute Force Logins

Is there a way to log and block someone attempting to brute force your Untangle admin portal from the internet? This would be similar to the account lockout feature in windows RDP?

Install 9.3.2 x64 server gives a critical error

We did bought last week a new server for replacing the old UT box.

I'am already 3days busy to install 9.3.2 x64 on it but it still stops everytime installing at 30% on package: zlib1g

Server fans spin up to 100% and the red led is blinking on the HP server that there is a critical error but the problem is that the server only can shutdown with a power kill so there is no error log in the Ilo of the server.

- Server is crashing everytime 30% on package: zlib1g
- Did the install from ISO cd as IMG USB same result
- Ton of different bios settings not solved crashing
- Harddisk setup single, disk RAID setup 0/1, 0 with spare - with fault and without fault tolerance - all kinds of stripe settings - with cache and without. server still crashing.
- Did install UT on a special internal SD card install is going ok but then it must reboot then it won't start UT
- Did install windows 2008 on the server in single/raid modus no problem at all did give direct al kinds of hardware test on the server no problem at all. Install of a random linux distro also no problem at all.

* not yet checked for bios/firmware updates for the server!

Server specs:
- HP ProLiant DL360p Gen8 (performance series)
- 2x Xeon E5-2650 2.0GHz 8-core (total 32cores)
- Memory 64GB (32Gb for each processor)
- 2x HP 300GB 6G SAS 15K rpm SFF (2.5-inch)
- HP Smart Array P420i controller 2048mb cache and a backup battery module.
- 1x HP Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331T Adapter

Maybe overkill of specs but that is what we want. Anyone have an idea what to try next to run UT on it?

Trying to install Open Vpn client on a windows 8 home edition laptop. Get to the installing the tapi and it hangs. I know kind of stabbing in the dark here but any ideas would be helpful.

static DHCP ignored in favor of duplicate dynamic DHCP

I've configured a static DHCP in Config -> Networking -> DHCP Server. It now nicely shows the static DHCP lease at the top, and three entries for the specified MAC address in the Current DHCP list below. The machine in question seems to keep the static dhcp ip, but others on the network randomly get each of the three addresses. How do I clear the bad entries from the "Current DHCP Entries" list? (I also see these entries in the "Automatic DNS entries" list in the DNS tab, but I suspect the root of the problem is DHCP.)

I've tried rebooting Untangle, leaving it off for a good long time, changing the Static DHCP entry, removing the Static DHCP entry, all to no avail.

Re-install question

I tried searching but couldn't find an answer.

Have a quick question. We are almost done building a new computer for Untangle. We've already transferred the license once before with no issues so I'm comfortable handling that. The question I have is if all the OpenVPN clients will still work when we load our backup onto the new install or if I have to re-deploy all the clients.

I would assume that the OpenVPN config would be saved and they would all connect again but would be good to know for sure so I know whether to deploy the new system before the holidays or wait until after since OpenVPN will be needed for people to connect over our break.

Any insight would be helpful.

Hello,

I am interested in Untangle for our business and have a few questions but first a little information about our network.

We have two LAN's and are both physically separate except at the very front of the network for ISP failover. If the ISP for one network goes down, it can use the ISP of the other network. That is the extend of access each network has to each other.

With this infomration in mind, do you forsee us having to need two separate boxes for Untangle, one for each network?

We are concerned about bandwidth throughput from our ISP. We have 50mb download/upload on one ISP and 30mb download/upload on the other. Does Untangle do anything to limit the throughput?

Lastly, if one were to create a custom server for Untangle, are there any hardware recommendations to get maximum benefit?

Web pages load only sometimes

I installed UT on the proxy server I have been using for the last few years, squid, it is a P4 3.4 with 4gb ram 120gb SATA HD. I like the interface and relative ease of use. I was experimenting with IPCop but did not find it suitable...The web pages seemed to load correctly at first but after about an hour of running pages would only load intermittently sometimes slow, sometimes time out....we only have 11 users that are allowed to access the web and another 12 that are not. I met the system requirements so I gave it a go. The set up was intuitive and easy. My port forwards worked I was receiving emails. My issue is with the web pages stopping. I turned off everything except for firewall and web filter light (and reports). I would like to determine what the issue is, I am willing to use a new machine...but reluctant if hardware is not the issue. i did notice with TOP that CTASD.bin(not in front of the terminal currently but I think that was the process) and java where pegging the cpu, 100%+ at times. I updated the BIOS after reading some posts but that was not helpful. One more thing, I am bridging behind a netgear router, which, I am willing to remove at resort...our mac is attached to our ip address....if I can clone tje MAC in untangle I would consider it...but not what I really want to do.

Upgrade from version 7.3.1

I have been negligent in upgrading my Untangle box, and now want to upgrade from version 7.3.1 Lenny to the latest version. Can anybody tell me whether or not I am likely to be successful in using the Untangle upgrade process to accomplish this, or whether I should expect to have to do a bare metal rebuild of the box? Also wondering whether a saved configuration from the 7.3.1 installation can be restored to latest version if I have to do a complete rebuild?

I have a Super Bundle license if this makes any difference.

Bandwith Monitoring

Hey All ,

I am very sorry if this has been coverd already
but ive tried guides on other posts to no avali

I want to be able to see my daily/weekly bandwith usage on my box
i currently have it running in bridge mode and everything works great
I have tried to install ntop but i cant get the source working properly and i came across one post where i got repos that worked but i get this error

after hours i kind gave up on ntop

I use iftop if i need something realtime in the meantime but i would like something that plots usage on a graph or something graphical

does anyone have a suggestion as to what i can use to accomplish this ?

without having to pay for the bandwith monitor plugin as this is for my home setup

Unable to open Untangle Web Interface, it prompts message "It works!"

Hi all,

Really need expertise here on solving this issue, I'm unable to open Untangle Web Interface, it prompts message "It works!". How to fix this in the easiest and quickest way (if can, without using command line, as I'm really not good in command line).

SQL Filling Drive Space

I recently noticed that postgresql files have filled my hard drive and when I try to view event logs for anything in the rack I get this warning message:

GUI Customizations

Hi all,

New Untangle user here. I really like the technical aspect of the product and look forward to using it but the GUI is certainly bugging me. Is there any way to customize it?

I'm specifically looking to do 2 things:

1) Remove the App tab on the left or make Config the default tab. The apps I currently have installed is all I'll be needing. I don't need to be constantly reminded about the Premium and Standard packages and it's just another thing to click through to get to the Config tab.

2) Enable a 'lite' or 'less graphics' mode that removes all the filler content like screws, power buttons and status lights. I would really like to remove the App icons in the Rack. There's no uniformity in their appearance and they look awful regardless of what skin I'm using.

I know it's personal preference and doesn't affect the product in anyways. I'm just use to GUI's from Cisco/Fortigate/pfSense etc. that look somewhat professional. Using Untangle makes me feel like I'm playing with my sons Fisher Price laptop - which is really weird ;)

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Happy New Year!

Install on M86 box?

I have a M86 firewall appliance I no longer use. I've seen users turn it into a linux box or even windows. Do you know if the appliance is strong enough to run Untangle? I only need UT for a captive portal guest network with low traffic.

I just want it to have them agree to terms or just click next with no authentication. It will do basic filtering for bad sites and etc, nothing else.

Stuck at gcc lib on Vmware and other noobie issues.

I want to start by saying I'm not a linux expert.

I mainly work with Microsoft ISA and TMG, But since Microsoft is dis-continuing this product line we are on the lookout for something else which is just as flexible and can run as a VM on ESX.

The install didn't went so smooth as I hoped.
launched the install with untangle_932_x64.iso
The installation wizard asked me what keyboard, I filled in the Azerty keyboard type I use.

I created on ESX4.1 a new VM with 20Gb disk Thin Provisioned, 2CPU and 4GB ram.

I choose 3 E1000 adapters (External, Internal & DMZ) since I guess that the VMnet3 adapter wouldn't be default supported, I thought I can change it later after the installation of the VMWare tools

I had to fill in the IP information for the WAN adapter, I selected Static checked if I had the correct adapter (By on vmware connecting and disconnecting virtual network cable in guest settings.) when I fill in the IP information and clicked check: I get an error message that IP info isn't correct and it emptied all fields again :( so I can restart entering everything.
I tried again check and the appliance hung completely! I had to do a reset.

PS: I'm sure that the IP settings where correct and the network-card was directly connected to the internet with one of our IP adresses no other firewall of network device in between.

After the reset the appliance came back in the wizard mode, I set the adapter to staic again, entered the IP information pressed check and I get an error that there is no connection and all fields where cleared again. (Why they do that, even if it fails leave the entered information there)
Anyway, I re-entered the IP information and decided to save without doing the test.

I get a congratulations that my install was finished, but that it couldn't connect to the application store. On that page there is a link to the network settings, I click it and I see that there that my IP settings that I entered are gone and the adapter is set to DHCP.
I set the adapter to Static and again I entered the IP information. And lo and behold, the interface is working! (I started a ping -t to the IP address)

This is version 9 already and there are that much bugs in the basic IP settings? But ok lets go forward if this is the only issue

Since I was currently working in the VMware console I wanted to install the Vmware tools first, so mouse movement would go smoother and I could replace the E1000 adapters with much better performing the VMnet3 network adapters.

In Vmware I select the install Vmware tools which should mount the CD-rom with the tools in the VM.
Note again: I am not use to work with Linux I am a windows sysadmin.
I wasn't expecting a pop-up box and next-next-finish as in windows to install the vmware tools so I open the Console had to enter a password and off I was: but wait, the keyboard is in qwerty, and not in Azerty as I configured in the initial installation wizard.
so first doing some research again how to change the keyboard settings in the console I managed to put it in azerty.
Now doing some research on installing the Vmware tools in linux. I found a lot of different things for different distributions regarding how to mount the cdrom. /media/cdrom, /dev/cdrom you had to know the disk-format ISO9660 etc.
But I didn't know what Linux distribution Untangle was, after some searching I found (I think) it is Debian.

Now entering a bunch of command I found on the Vmware support forum for the installation of the Vmware tools.
The set-up starts, a lot of questions to answer where you mostly can press Enter to continue. (I was starting to miss that next-next finish.)
Suddenly I had to enter the location of the GCC library.
How should I know? OK Back to google I found that it should be /usr/lib/gcc entered this and get a message that this path is not valid.
I learned that you can install the gcc library via the command "apt-get install gcc" seemed logical to me, I enter this in the console and I get the message that gcc is already the newest version.

I found there is a command: "whereis gcc" great this gave me the following: "/usr/bin/gcc /usr/lib/gcc /usr/lib64/gcc"
So in the vmware install I tried all of them starting with the /usr/lib64/gcc but none of them works.

This is where I am now, stuck with the vmware tools install.

FYI: I did select in my guest settings as operating system Debian Linux6 64bit, so the version of the Vmware tools should be correct that is mounted to the CD-Rom.

So far I am not really impressed but this could be due lack of Linux knowledge although I doubt that the bugs with the network settings and keyboard layout have anything to do with my lack of Linux knowledge.

Anyway, I still want to give it a chance if someone can help me overcome this gcc lib thingie. :)

Multiple Subnets - Newbie Help

I just determined I need to isolate a device on my network on a separate subnet. I have never messed with separate subnets. Can someone please slowly walk me through the process. The device must not be able to communicate to other devices on the other subnet.
