Hi,

I installed Untangle on new hardware, it seems to work fine, except when I go to the remote https administrative interface, the full page does not load, I see the username and password box, but the logo and surrounding border images don't load, I enter my login and it hangs trying to login..

Any clues as to what this problem is would be appreciated.

thanks,
Stefan

Untangle 9.3.1 x64 Install Issues

$

I downloaded the latest 9.3.1 x64 USB file from Untangles website. I then installed it on a USB thumb drive per the wiki. I then installed Untangle 9.3.1 x64 without issue. The last screen said Untanlge was successfully installed and to remove the installation media and hit ok. I pulled out the USB thumb drive and hit ok and the system restarted. After the PC goes through the normal POST process I get a black screen with a blinking cursor. I made sure the boot order is set to boot from the main hard drive which I installed Untangle on.

Is there something I missing when installing Untangle x64. I have installed and setup Untangle x86 boxes at least 4 times and those boxes are still running strong without issue. I tried to install Untangle x64 9.2.1 about 6 months ago and couldnt get that to start up either after a successful install on another box.

Is there a special procedure I need to follow? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will have alot of users 50-60+ so I wanted to go with Untangle x64 with 8GB of ram.

Here are my system specs for the x64 install that wont load Untangle after install:

Intel DH77KC Motherboard
Intel Core i3 3220 CPU
G.Skill 8GB (2x4GB) Ripjaws DDR3-1333
Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATAIII Hard Drive
Intel PRO 1000/PT DUAL Port Gigabit NIC PCI-E 4x
Rosewill CAPSTONE 450w 80 Plus GOLD Power Supply

Rule Creation question

I have been running the dreaded Linux IPtables for a firewall and have decided to change over using Untangle.

My question is:

By default, does Untangle firewall block/close ALL PORTS???
And by that we would have to specify which ports to be open in the individual rules?

Im running with the Extrernal/Bridge mode.

Thanks!

Problem adding Certificat

Hi,

We have our own Root CA that is microsoft certified etc but i don't think that Untangle has the root in place so when i try to install a certificate from the root the webgui brakes and i have to use the "update_cert.sh" patch.

I have tried to import the root ca (public part) with "keytool -import -trustcacerts -file siths_ca_version_3.cer"

the "siths_ca_version_3.cer" is the public part of the root certificate that the certificate is made from to the untangle server.

Or is there something else that is braking?

Any help would be super :P

reset password not default & ucli throws errors

Ok so I was having an issue trying to get into the terminal and like always people dont document the important passwords for our devices... I really needed root access to terminal but I also needed GUI access which i didnt have the password for as well so starting out I did the recovery and reset admin passwords (admin/passwd) except passwd does not work... I tried resetting this many times with the same result, it DOES NOT work.

So I started the untangle box in single user and reset root with passwd command and rebooted. I now have access to the terminal BUT ucli passwd -a/-d give me "a little error" and i cant delete or create a new account. so im locked out of untangle GUI...

Bridged Mode Setup Question

Will this setup work?

Comcast Modem >Untangle Device >Router/AP

My setup would be Comcast modem to untangle device in bridged mode then to my Router/AP, which will handle DHCP and NAT.

I really dont wanna put the router/ap behind untangle cause then the AP wouldnt be filtered.

Would this setup work?

Install from USB trying to install on itself.

Hi,

I am trying to install from USB, I have followed the instructions in the installation guide. When it get's to partitioning it fails with the following error:

Failed to create a file system.
The ext3 file system creation in partition #1 of SCS!1 (0.0.0) (sda) failed.

There is no option to choose where to install Untangle?

I have two hard drives in the machine. Do they need formatting before the installation begins.

I think it is trying to install untangle on the USB drive it is installing from.

Cheers

Untangle failing some PCI-DSS compliance test for a card processor

One of our clients was looking to use a credit card processor's service. They processor came in and ran some network audit.

The results, to say the least, and quite interesting.

Here are the failures and my understandings of this failure:

"Callback Unauthorized Login Vulnerability"
Credit card processor facility checks to see if we have secure shell enabled on our outside interface

"CN Does Not Match the Entity Name"
My SSL cert for port 443 isn't 173-x-x-x-some-comcast-name, it's "hostname.example.com"

So, my solution for the http problem is quite simple. Rename the host name to whatever hostname that comes up in a trace route command.
And if this fails, change my listening port to 444 instead of 443

Now, for the SSL, is there a way to change the listening port from 22 to 222, similar to smoothwall's?

In any case, I need to resolve this. Apparently, the processor want to gouge my client an extra $50/month for these discrepancies. Times this by two processors doing the same thing, $100/month is a lot of money in today's slow economy.

Bridge mode on a single subnet

Will this work:

Sonic Wall with a NIC on the inside subnet (192.168.210.2) that would go into the External NIC on untangle and the Internal NIC on untangle would go to the core switch. Issue is that everything is on the 192.168.210 subnet. Is this workable or should I reconfigure the Sonic Wall to a different subnet? Thanks to all who post.

Apps

Quick question.

If you have 3 racks and all three racks have the same apps, could you do away with using some of them if their on the default (even though their not parent and child).

Example

Rack A has web filter, firewall, application control, and intrusion prevention.
Rack B has web filter, firewall, application control and intrusion prevention.

can I remove firewall and intrusion prevention and still keep them on rack A?

Installation Wizard - Dynamic DHCP Status info is not found

I had my Untangle installation well over a year and it has been fine until now. For some reason it cannot connect to internet. My Untangle server sits between my Cable modem and my wireless router. I tested a direct connection to my modem using my laptop and it works just fine.

After hours of troubleshooting, including swapping out NIC's, I decided to just perform a new installation from scratch. I seem to be stuck at the Internet Connection step during the Installation Wizard. I have connection type as Dynamic (DHCP) but DHCP status is all blank. It has not detected anything. When I click the Test Connectivity button the test fails. This was the same configuration since the beginning.

Can anyone point in the right direction as to where else I need to look for this? Is there perhaps something on my Cable modem that is preventing this? The modem is not new and I have not modified any configurations.

emails being sent to root@hostname.com

So my mail server constantly has a queue of emails that cannot be sent, coming from the Untangle system. From what I read so far in the forum, it looks like they should be routing to /dev/null but it might not be the case? Emails are complaining about an exim paniclog size being non-zero, but when I check that file it is indeed zero. For now I have moved that file to paniclog.old, and deleted all the emails in the exchange server. This is from mair.err on Untangle:

Code:

Nov 26 01:01:01 HYPERION exim4: ALERT: exim paniclog /var/log/exim4/paniclog has non-zero size, mail system possibly broken
Mail system seems to be in order, though. I thought maybe I just needed to change the root email on the system to a valid address so that they can be emailed properly, but I don't see where in Untangle to do that. I would figure out how to do that in Debian itself, but from what I have seen lately, a future system update would likely break that anyway.

Any advice? I mean it's not critical, just somewhat annoying. :)

Unable to recognise network ports

I have installed UT 9.31 X64 on a new machine with the following specs:

Processor: Intel i3 2120
Motherboard: Foxconn H61MXP
Ami Bios: 08 00 10 1464
Chipset: Sandybridge
Southbridge: Cougar point LPC controller
Memory: 4GB
HDD: 500GB
Additional PCIe network card: TrendNet TEG-ECTX - which I see is in the HW compatibility index.

The problems are that I can't get past the new\twork configuration because;
1. The onboard NIC is seen by UT but does not recognise when the cable is plugged into it, and
2. The PCIe card is not recognised at all.

Note that I am actually using the same box to type this so at least on of the NICs is working even if it can't be configured.

Can anyone please advise what I can do to resolve this?

Thanks.
Terry.
